Bed and breakfast accommodation
Quiet, secluded, rural setting on 500-acre property in south-west France

The Domaine de Saint Maurice is a 500 acre agricultural property situated between Bordeaux and Pau in the south of the department of the Landes on the banks of the River Adour.

The chateau is set at the end of an avenue of oak trees, and is surrounded by gardens in the front and a park at the back, with lawns and shady trees.

The history of the property dates back to the 13th century, when the monks from the nearby town of Saint Sever developed and farmed it. They built a weir across the Adour and a network of canals to irrigate the crops.

The main canals are still used to supply water for irrigation. The chateau was built in the 19th century to replace a former residence of the counts of Béarn (12th century), burned during the revolution.

The chateau has recently been renovated. The bedrooms are light and airy with views over the garden and the park. The pool, set in a secluded corner of the park, is a welcome spot on a hot, summer day.
